Dala dala wa twiga (the giraffe bus)

Project coordinator John Doherty says: "To give local children free days out in Samburu National Reserve costs $20.00 (£14.00/€16.00/KSh2,000.00) per head, including transport and a picnic lunch. Some of the youngsters who take part in the programme have never previously ridden in a vehicle. For most of them, it provides their first intimate experiences of the wild animals with whom their communities more or less willingly coexist. Very soon, these will be the people on whose consent the future of northern Kenya’s magnificent wildlife depends".
